As it says on the front cover ‘this is a story about right and wrong and how sometimes they look the same – exactly. Stedman offers a decent effort to tackle an unusual subject matter – moral choices. I needed something a bit lighter and got exactly that with The Light Between Oceans. It made a nice changed from the quite intense stuff I’ve been reading recently. The Light Between Oceans is fast paced and a compelling read. There are a few things I felt didn’t quite work that Stedman will (hopefully) learn to master in subsequent novels. I found Stedman’s novel impressive for a debut. I really enjoyed The Light Between Oceans. Isabel sprinkled more water and patted down the soil around the rosemary bush she had just planted. A single fat cloud snailed across the late-April sky, which stretched above the island in a mirror of the ocean below. ON THE DAY of the miracle, Isabel was kneeling at the cliff’s edge, tending the small, newly made driftwood cross. They break the rules and follow their hearts. The only two islanders, Tom and his wife Izzy, are about to make a devastating decision. A boat washes up on the shores of a remote lighthouse keeper’s island.
