![]() ![]() ![]() The book begins with an alien (in this book they are called “souls”) being inserted into a human body. Nonetheless, I was surprised to find The Host to be thoughtful and interesting. I’m sure I’m not the only one who cringes when someone says, “I don’t usually read, but I loved this book!” This book is entirely unrelated to the popular vampire series. That’s not really a bad thing, but it does sometimes raise my more elitist, bibliophile hackles. The reason, I think, is that the Twilight series appeals to people who do not usually read. The funny thing is that it was undoubtedly our best attended book club ever all kinds of people came out of the woodwork that we’ve never seen before or since. And I had no real desire to read the other ones (conveniently, my daughter already had, so she summed them up in a couple of sentences). I read the first one, because it was a selection for my book club. In the last year these books have seen incredible buzz, and everyone and their dog seemed to be reading them. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably seen the Twilight phenomenon in action. ![]() I liked this book much more than I expected too. ![]() ![]() After a string of abusive relationships, Shannon decides to turn over a new leaf in a new city with new friends. We first met Cole in Down London Road as Jo's little brother, all angsty and artistic. Unfortunately, this book a little disappointing and the characters lacked that special spark found in some of the other previous stories. I really liked him as a kid and couldn't wait to see what he would be like as an adult. I know I am way late to the ODS party, but I was belatedly excited when I finally met Cole in Down London Road and then realized the Echoes on Scotland Street was his book.
